UTM parameters explained
Every link you share in ads, emails, or social posts can tell Google Analytics exactly where its traffic came from — if it carries UTM parameters. UTMs are the five tags (source, medium, campaign, term, content) that turn a plain URL into a trackable campaign link.
This free UTM builder creates clean, correctly-encoded campaign URLs instantly. Enter your page and campaign details, and copy a link ready for Meta Ads, Google Ads, newsletters, or influencer posts — no signup, everything runs in your browser.
utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign
utm_source identifies who sent the traffic (google, facebook, newsletter). utm_medium describes how it was sent (cpc, email, social). utm_campaign names the promotion (diwali-sale-2026). These three are required — without them, GA4 lumps visits into Unassigned or Direct.
utm_term and utm_content
utm_term records the paid keyword (mainly Google Ads search campaigns). utm_content distinguishes creatives pointing at the same URL — e.g. story-swipeup vs reel-link — so you can see which ad variation actually drove clicks and conversions.
UTM hygiene that keeps reports clean
Analytics breaks when the same traffic is tagged inconsistently — Instagram vs instagram vs IG splits one channel into three rows. Stick to lowercase, use hyphens instead of spaces, and agree on a short list of sources and mediums before a campaign launches. This builder lowercases values by default and overwrites (never duplicates) existing utm_* keys.

FAQ
Does this tool send my URLs to a server?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser. No URLs leave your device.
Which UTM parameters are required?
GA4 needs utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign to attribute sessions correctly. Term and content are optional refinements.
Does it preserve my existing query params?
Yes, by default. Untick “Keep existing query params” to drop them and keep only the UTM tags.
Should UTM values be lowercase?
Yes — GA4 treats Source and source as different values. Lowercasing is on by default to keep reports clean.
